AKIS Interdisziplinärer Arbeitskreis Innere Sicherheit (AKIS) is a scientific working group in which currently about 240 researchers from different disciplines (in particular political science, sociology, history, law and criminology) work together on central questions of research on homeland security as well as on the police. KAVOMA The teaching modules of the postgraduate master's program Katastrophenvorsorge und Katastrophenmanagement (KaVoMa) at the University Bonn cover aspects from the social, natural, engineering and health sciences as well as operational areas. The spectrum ranges from methods of hazard, vulnerability and risk analysis to the assessment of risks and the possible methods of sustainable precautions and preparation for emergencies. Fundamental importance is attached to risk communication. National and international examples from practice illustrate the contents and the application relevance of the study contents. DHPOL The German Police University (DHPol) is a special higher learning institution with university status supported by the interior ministries and interior senators of the federal and state governments.The university offers an accredited two-year Master's programme in "Public Administration - Police Management". Students are police officers from all over Germany, who are promoted to the higher police service after successfully completing their Master's degree. The university offers a comprehensive training programme for the higher police service with 2,000 participants from Germany and abroad every year.

In addition to teaching and advanced training, research in all disciplines represented at DHPol is the third pillar of the university.

SIC safety innovation center (SIC) is a non-profit research company that aims to promote innovations in the field of civil safety. SIC cooperates with the District of Paderborn, the City of Paderborn and the Paderborn University and is supported by an advisory board. SIC investigates and complements innovative concepts in the field of digitisation for civil safety, with a focus dedicated to human-centered design. In order to increase civil safety, SIC’s goal is to make the opportunities arising from digitisation usable and minimise its risks.
